Electa, the oldest daughter of A.M. and Mary Bertholf was born in Lincoln township, Madison county, Iowa, Dec. 8, 1863 (1865). After several years of ill health died suddenly at her home in Winterset November 11, 1913, age 47 years, 11 months, days.

She was united in marriage to G. B. Alexander November 13, 1887. Six children blessed this union, Agnes and a babe preceding her to the better land. Four children, Worth, Hazel, Esther and Lucy, the husband, her mother, four brothers, Charles of Lorimor, Wesley, of Osceola, James, of Creston, Ellis, of Winterset, , and two sisters, Mrs. Lizzie Hicks, of Ottawa, Kans., Mrs. Linda Callison, near Earlham, survive her.

About 10 years ago she gave her heart to God and his love comforted her during her long years of suffering and impaired vision. Electa was a loving and faithful wife, a devoted and self-sacrificing mother, and deemed nothing too hard to do for her dear ones, and her days were filled with work for others. She met life with a smile and a brave heart. After her health failed and her eyes became dim, her greatest sorrow was that she could not labor for her family. The world is better for the life of this dear courageous mother.

Funeral services were held at the New Hope church Thursday, conducted by Rev. L. F. Davis. Interment in the Clark cemetery.
