Mr. Goodfellow Dead

Rev. T. M. Goodfellow has met with a terrible death. He and his wife and two children were out sleighing, and were crossing a bridge in the town of Elk Grove when the horse commenced staggering and finally fell over the bridge, dragging Mr. Goodfellow and family after him, a distance of sixteen feet. Mr. and Mrs. Goodfellow fell over on their faces and each had a deep gash over the eye. Mrs. G. was severely stunned and when she recovered consciousness she found her children standing by her, crying. She crawled to where her husband was and was trying to raise his head when help came. Mr. Goodfellow never became conscious and after lingering a few hours died. The children received only a few slight bruises. Mrs. G. is doing as well as can be expected. It is believed that the collar choked the horse and caused his fall. Strange to say he exhibited visible injuries.

Mr. Goodfellow was, at the time of his death, pastor of the Methodist church at Dunton, Illinois, Mr. Goodfellow was years ago pastor of the Methodist church of Winterset. He was the first Chaplain of the Fourth Iowa Infantry.

Transcriber’s note: An “S. M. Goodfellow” is listed in the 1869 Madison County history as having been the M. E. pastor in 1858.
