James V. Carter, of Patterson died very suddenly Sunday morning from a stroke of paralysis. The funeral was held from the house Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 o’clock, and the interment took place in the Patterson graveyard north of town. Mr. Carter was an old and highly respected citizen of this county and the entire community extend their sympathy to the bereaved relatives.

JAMES V. CARTER

James V. Carter was born at Bainbridge, Indiana, February 25, 1842, and died at his home at Patterson, November 5, 1905, aged 63 years, 8 months and 11 days.

He united with the M. E. church at Bainbridge at the age of 18, but was unable to attend church the last few years on account of ill health.

He was married to Tabitha Ryner, August 16th, 1874. To this union were born four children, all of whom are still living. The four children, Mrs. D. A. Carnagan and Miss Ethel Carter, of Ocala, Florida, and Jesse and Everett, of Des Moines, with their afflicted mother, are left to mourn a kind husband and loving father. The sons were present, but the daughters were unable to arrive in time for the funeral.

Mr. Carter was a member of the 18th Indiana Artillery, having spent three years of the best part of his life in the service of his country, contracting diseases which caused his death.

Note: Burial was made in Montpelier cemetery.
