David S. DeWitt, well known farmer and stock raiser, died of arteriosclerosis at the Warford Rest home in Des Moines last Thursday, at the age of 75 years. He had been ill six weeks, following a stroke on Nov. 25.
Mr. DeWitt was born Oct. 6, 1871, at New Providence in Hardin county, the eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. A. S. DeWitt. He moved to Madison county in 1901, and had lived on the same farm, northeast of Winterset, for 45 years.
He was married to Minnie Mitchell of New Providence on Sept. 8, 1900. She died in 1929.
Mr. and Mrs. DeWitt were the parents of three daughters, and two sons, all of whom survive. They are: Ruth DeWitt, at home, Mrs. Louise Burr of Des Moines, Mrs. Alice Chapman of DeSoto, Rodney DeWitt at home, and Richard DeWitt of Des Moines. He also leaves three grandchildren, two sisters, and two brothers.
Funeral services were held last Friday from the Ramsey-Richards funeral home, in charge of the Rev. William A. Knight, pastor of Highland Park Church of Christ in Des Moines. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
