Mrs. Lyle Smith died at her home here Tuesday afternoon after several months of rapidly failing health. She had undergone a major operation on Nov. 4, and her condition had been serious since that time. She was 45 years of age.
Mrs. Smith spent her life in this community. She was the former Mary Rogers, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Rogers, and was born in Winterset, June 29, 1901. She was married to Lyle Smith on July 12, 1922.
She is survived by her husband and four daughters,
Mrs. Gene Jones and Mrs. Wallace Spence of Winterset, and Patricia and Lyla at home. She also leaves her mother, Mrs. Sam Rogers of Winterset; three sisters, Mrs. Lyle H. Smith of Macksburg, Mrs. Helen Pattee of Portland, Oregon, and Mrs. Howard Scott of Newton; and three brothers, Chester and Raymond Rogers of Winterset, and Robert Rogers of Clarinda.Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon from the Ramsey-Richards funeral home at two o'clock, in charge of the Rev. Wilbur Watkins, with burial in the Winterset cemetery.
