SARAH WILLIAMS

Sarah Williams, eldest daughter of Benoni Williams and Hester Ann Anderson, his wife, was born in Moorefield, Harrison county, Ohio, Oct. 5, 1838. Here she grew to womanhood and made this place her home until after the death of her father. In November 1879, she moved with her mother to Winterset to live near her sisters, Mrs. R. L. Leech and Mrs. D. C. Hervey. Later, in the year 1888 the family was joined by the only brother, J. W. Williams and his family. She continued to live in Winterset until 1905, when upon the marriage of her niece, whom she had cared for since early childhood, she moved with her to Weatherford, Okla., and this has been her home since, with the exception of two and a half years spent back in the old Iowa home.

In her early girlhood she united with the Methodist Episcopal church at Moorefield, Ohio, later transferring her membership to the Winterset church, and during the last years of her life was affiliated, with her niece and nephew, with the Congregational church at Weatherford.

Although her sisters and brother preceded her in death a number of years, she leaves to mourn her loss, in her immediate home family, her niece and her husband, Mrs. Flora and Mr. Cleve Thompson of Weatherford, Okla., three other nieces: Mrs. Cora Sprinkle, Mrs. Carleton Null and Miss Laura Leech; and six nephews: Charles, John and Sam Williams; Dr. Charles, Dr. Chester and Alvin Leech. To them she has given a loving affection.

She departed this life at her home in Weatherford, Okla., March 14, 1923, aged 84 years, 5 months and 9 days.

Funeral services were held in Winterset on Monday March 19th, conducted by Rev. LeRoy C. Cooley, pastor of the First Presbyterian church. Burial took place in Winterset cemetery.
