Winterset, IowaVETERAN DIES IN HOSPITAL IN OMAHA
Robert Williams Was Native of Winterset; Served in World War II
Robert E. Williams, former Winterset resident died last Thursday Feb. 7th at the Veterans hospital in Omaha after an extended illness. Williams, a son of Earnest and Audrey Henderson Williams was born in Winterset, Dec. 11, 1921, and lived here until after the death of his mother, when he was five years of age. The family then moved to Omaha and after the death of Mr. Williams ten years ago, Robert and several of his brothers returned here to reside with relatives.
He served in the Pacific war theater during World War II, and while overseas he became ill with Hodgkins disease. For the past eight months he has been a patient at the Veterans hospital in Omaha.
Brief services were held at the chapel in the hospital at Omaha, Saturday morning and the body was brought here where the American Legion conducted military burial services at the Winterset cemetery Saturday Feb. 9 at 3 o’clock in the afternoon.
Mr. Williams is survived by three brothers, Richard E. Williams of Omaha, Neb., Donald Williams of Hot Springs, Ark. And Warren Williams of Wichita, Kan. He also leaves three nieces and nephew and several uncles and aunts, two of whom reside in Winterset, Mrs. Lillian H. Smith and Erie W. Henderson.
