HELEN WESTCOT DIED WEDNESDAY

Winterset Resident Had spent Life in Profession of Education

Helen L. Westcot, member of a family well know in Winterset in former years, died Wednesday Aug. 13, at the home of her sister, Mrs. Daley Calkins, of Omra (Omro), Wisc. She was 62 years of age.

Miss Westcot was born at Rockford, Ill., April 14, 1890, a daughter of Nathan and Sylvia Jane Westcot. In 1896, she came with her parents to this community, and her home had been here since that time.

She was a graduate of the Winterset high school and Des Moines college, and held a master’s degree from Iowa State college at Ames. Her active life was spent as a teacher in high schools of Iowa.

She had been a member of the Winterset Presbyterian church since she was 14 years of age. She was affiliated with the Women’s Relief corps, Rebekah lodge, Past Noble Grand club, and the Westminster Sunday school class of her church.

Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Daley Calkins of Omro, Wisc. and Mrs. W. B. Abrahams of Winterset; and a brother, George Westcot of Chicago.

Funeral services were held Sunday from Anderson’s home for funerals, conducted by the Rev. Clement D. Loehr, pastor of the Winterset Presbyterian church. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
