OBITUARY

Gilbert W. Weatherly 74, prominent business man of Jasper and well known banker throughout Southwest Missouri, passed away at his home in Jasper at 4 o’clock Thursday morning.

Mr. Weatherly, president of the First National Bank of Jasper, had been in failing health for the past year. He retired as active president of the bank on December 31, 1950.

Mr. Weatherly was born November 10, 1877 in Exeter, Missouri, only son of Wright W. Weatherly and Virginia Weatherly. His father preceded him in death. His mother, with whom he made his home, survives.

He was married in 1902 to Nellie May Bricker, who died in 1918. One son, H. Paul Weatherly, was born to this marriage.

Mr. Weatherly was a graduate of the A. M. Palmer College in Iowa in the year 1902. Following graduation he taught school for a number of years in Iowa. In 1910 he moved to Joplin, Missouri, where he organized the Joplin Business College. From Joplin he returned to Iowa where he studied law and was admitted to the Bar, practicing in the states of Iowa and Missouri. During his law practice he was associated with the Internal Revenue Department.

In June of 1926 Mr. Weatherly came to Jasper, purchasing the interest of W. H. Waters, Jr. in the First National Bank of Jasper. He remained president of the institution until the time of his death.

In his earlier years Mr. Weatherly was active in civic affairs, having served as Mayor of Jasper from 1946 to 1948. He was a member of the Jasper Masonic Lodge, and the First Methodist church in Jasper.

Surviving are his mother, Mrs. Virginia Weatherly, one son, H. P. Weatherly, and four grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at the First Methodist church in Jasper at 2 o’clock, Friday afternoon. Rev. Wesley Hampton, pastor, will officiate assisted by Rev. George Johnson of Jasper.

G. W. Weatherly Died at Jasper, Missouri

Word was received this morning by local relatives of the death of Gilbert W. Weatherly of Jasper, Missouri. The body will lie in state at the Welch Funeral Home Saturday with grave-side services and burial in the Penn Center cemetery at 2:00 p.m. Saturday afternoon.

Mr. Weatherly was a teacher here from 1901 to 1904. He also was an attorney. He had been in the banking business in Missouri for many years and was engaged in this business at the time of his death.

He is survived by his son, Paul, four grandchildren, his mother, his sister-in-law, Mrs. Ethel Benson and brother-in-law, Carl O. Bricker.

Grave-side Services for G. W. Weatherly

Graveside services were held at the Penn Center cemetery for Gilbert W. Weatherly, at 2:00 p.m. Saturday afternoon. Mr. Weatherly was a former resident of Earlham having taught school here from 1901 to 1903 and again from 1915 to 1917. He was married to Nellie May Bricker of Earlham in 1902.

Note: Burial was in Penn Center Cemetery, Madison County, Iowa
