Alice May Herren, daughter of the late J. H. and H. J. Mack, was born Nov. 27, 1864 in Grand River township, Madison county, Iowa, and departed this life on March 11, 1923 at the age of 58 years, 3 months and 12 days.
On Nov. 18, 1885 she was united in marriage to F. C. Herren at Macksburg. To this union five children were born, all of whom were with her at the time of her departure. To hold her in fond remembrance there are, the husband, the children,namely: Coyt R., Mrs. Floetta M. Wolfe, Mrs. Lela B. Wolfe, all of Macksburg; Ray M., of Presho, S.D., and Clarence Dean, also of Macksburg; three sisters; Mrs. Sarah A. Farnsworth of Wichita, Kans.; Mrs. Onie B. Hixson and Mrs. Artie B. Townsend, both of Macksburg; nine grandchilren and many other relatives and hosts of friends.
From early life, Mrs. Herren has been an earnest and faithful worker in the church. Her first membership was with the Hebron Congregational church, of which she and her husband were charter members. A few years later, their membership was transferred to Wells Congregational church. In the month of September, 1921, they were received into the fellowship of the Macksburg M. E. church.
Her life was marked by self-sacrifice, in the home, for the sick, or wherever her services were needed. The many tokens of love and sympathy sent to her during her illness were greatly appreciated, not only by Mrs. Herren, but also by her husband and members of the family.
