POSTMASTER AT MACKSBURG DIES

Death of Leonard Lawless Occurred Friday at Age of 55 Years

MACKSBURG-Leonard Lawless postmaster at Macksburg for the past 12 years, died Friday, Oct. 3 at his home there. He was 55 years of age, and had been in failing health since the first of the year.

Mr. Lawless was born at Walnut, Iowa, on Feb. 8, 1897. For the past 26 years his home had been in Madison county. He was a veteran and a member of the American Legion. Before entering the post office at Macksburg, he had followed the trade of blacksmith.

He was married at Winterset on Jan 5, 1927 to Fern Pinckney who survives him. He also leaves three sons and a daughter, John Lawless of Des Moines, and Linda, Donald and David Lawless at home. He is also survived by one grandchild; three sisters, Mrs. Kate Rogers of Omaha, Mrs. Otto Marxen of Macksburg and Mrs. Ray Headlee of Avoca; and two brothers, Will Lawless of Unadilla, Nebr., and Albert Lawless of Brighton, Colo.

Funeral services were held Sunday from the Macksburg Baptist church in charge of the Rev. M. D. Summerbell of Greenfield, assisted by the Rev. Mr. Redfield of Macksburg. Burial was made in the Moon cemetery here.
