MRS. RAY KING Died Wednesday

Mrs. Ray King, well known resident, died at the Iowa Methodist hospital in Des Moines, Wednesday morning, May 13, 1959 at the age of 69 years. Mrs. King underwent surgery two and a half years ago for a malignancy, and she had been in poor health since that time. Her final illness at the Des Moines hospital was of six weeks' duration

A native of Winterset, Bertie, as she was familiary known, was born here, Oct. 16, 1889, a daughter of Albert and Lou Purscell Harris. She was married to Ray King, Winterset clothier, April 27, 1908, and they have always been active in community affairs. She became a member of the Baptist church when a girl. For many years, she was active in the American Legion auxiliary, and of the Pythian Sisters, serving as chief. She attended meetings of the organizations and of social groups, as long as her health permitted.

The Rev. John Porath will conduct her funeral services at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 17, at the Richards Funeral home, and burial will be made in the Winterset cemetery.

She is survived by her husband, and their three children: Mrs. Louise Briggie and Lloyd T. King of Winterset and Mrs. D. E. (Mary) Dodd of Greeley, Colo. She also leaves five grandchildren, Charles Briggie, who is stationed in Alabama with the U. S. Army, Bob Briggie of Winterset, Tom King, a student at the University of Iowa, Elizabeth Ann King of Winterset, and Judy Dodd of Greeley. A great granddaughter, Gaytha Shawneen Briggie of Alabama, also survives her. Her only brother, Charles, died in 1929.
