Former Madison County Boy Victim of Motorcycle Accident
Funeral services for Joseph K. McDonald, former Madison county resident who was killed in a motorcycle accident at Volga on Monday of last week, were held last Thursday from the Methodist church in that community. Burial was made in Hill Crest cemetery at Volga.
Mr. McDonald was born in Madison county on May 9, 1911, the youngest child of John and Bertha McDonald. He was educated in the schools of this county and at Iowa State college. His father died in 1929, and in 1931 the family moved to northeast Iowa, where he had since resided.
On May 9, 1935, he was married to Dorothy I. Hoskyn, at Arlington. They lived at New Hampton for a few years before moving to Volga. He was active in church work in his community, serving as Sunday school teacher, young people's class teacher, president of the Friendship circle, and world service treasurer.
He is survived by his wife; a foster daughter, Kay Eileen; his mother, Mrs. Sam Hoeness of Winterset; a brother, Merritt H. McDonald; and two sisters, Mrs. Floyd Riegle, and Mrs. Theodore Bassett.
