ELIZA JANE STICKLER

Eliza Jane, daughter of Thomas and Rebecca Kephart was born in Indiana October 22, 1859. Her father enlisted as a soldier in the Civil war and soon after the close of the war moved with his family to Madison County, Iowa, when Eliza was 8 years old. She was married to William R. Porter September 16, 1885 and to them one daughter, Viola was born. She was again married March 29, 1896 to Lyman L. Stickler and to them was born one daughter, Jessie V., who grew to young womanhood in Winterset and graduated from the Winterset high school in the class of 1919 and passed away four years later in March of 1923.

Mr. Stickler passed away October 26th of the same year and since then Mrs. Stickler has made her home in and near Winterset.

She was always kind and helpful to others and during the life of Mr. Stickler they were for several years custodians of the Madison county home where she was "mother" to all who needed her care.

She became a member of the Winterset Baptist church many years ago and has remained a faithful member. It was while attending church that she was taken ill and was later taken to the Winterset hospital where she passed away July 30th, 1931, at the age of 71 years, 9 months and 8 days.

She leaves her daughter, Viola Sewiss sof Woodward; 3 stepsons, Pearl Stickler of Altoona, Walter and Harry of Des Moines, a brother Samuel Kephart of Indiana, a sister, Mrs. Sarah Skates of Davenport, Iowa; and one half brother, Thomas Kephart of near Barney and a number of other relatives and many friends.

The Rev. John T. Hall conducted the services at Tidrick's funeral home Saturday afternoon, August lst, and interment was made in the Jordan cemetery at Valley Junction, beside her husband and daughter.
