MRS. GRACE E. FRAZIER DIES IN ILLINOIS

Former WAC Had Been in Ill Health Since Returning From New Guinea

Mrs. Grace E. Frazier, whose early life was spent in Madison county, died March 18 at Hines Veterans hospital in Hines, Ill., according to word received here.

Mrs. Frazier was 51 years of age. She was the former Grace Easter, born at Chapman, Neb., April 23, 1894. Before she was 2 years old, she moved with her parents, Josiah and Emma Easter to Madison county. She was reared in this community, and attended the Winterset high school and the Iowa State Teachers college at Cedar Falls.

After teaching school in Madison and Bremer counties, she took a business course at the Capitol City Commerical college in Des Moines, and had since been employed as a bookkeeper, first in Iowa City, and later in Chicago.

She was married in 1927 to Oliver N. Frazier of Indianola, who preceded her in death.

In November, 1943, she enlisted in the WAC. In the fall of 1944, she was sent overseas, landing in New Guinea, Sept. 6, 1944, with the first contingent of the WAC to arrive there. She served seven months there, assigned to maintenance of heavy combat vehicles.

After returning to the United States from New Guinea, she was sent to Vaughan General hospital for treatment, but never fully regained her health.

Mrs. Frazier is survived by four sisters and three brothers: Miss Lenna Easter of Washington, D.C., who had been with her during her last illness, Mrs. Ada McCorkle of Spencer, Mrs. Mildred Benjamin of Los Angeles, Calif., Ersie Easter of Cedar Falls, Frank Easter of Truro, Mrs. Olive Dodson of Maryland, and William Easter, who lives on the home farm in Jackson township. All of the brothers and sisters, except Mrs. Benjamin, attended the funeral services which were held at Oak Park, Ill., last Wednesday, March 20th, at 2:30 o'clock and burial was made in the Forest Home cemetery there.
