Death of Mrs. Albert Harris

Mrs. Al Harris died early Tuesday morning, Jan. 4, 1916, at her home in this city after an illness of several months from cancer.

The seriousness of her condition became known last fall. Every effort was made in her behalf, including treatment by a specialist, but without results.

Mrs. Harris was a woman of unusually kind heart, and considering her means and opportunity, did much for the needy and unfortmnate. She was well known in almost every part of this county by reason of her connection with the Harris boarding house and later with the restaurant, which was sold on account of her illness.

She is survived by the husband and two children: Charles Harris and Mrs. Birdie (Bertie) King.

Funeral services will be held tomorrow from the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ray King.

MRS. AL HARRIS

Sarah Louise Purcell, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Purcell, was born five miles east of Winterset, Iowa, on June 12, 1871, being the third child of a family of four children - the others are Matt Purcell of Winterset, Mrs Mary Purcell Barnett of Akron, O., and John Purcell of Council Bluffs, Iowa. All being present here today.

She was married in the fall of 1888, to Mr. Albert Harris, and has since made her home in Winterset. To this union two children were born, Bertie, now Mrs. Ray King of this city, and Charles, who makes his home at Carroll, Iowa.

Mrs. Harris was a devoted wife and mother, a loyal friend and helpful neighbor. In early girlhood, Mrs. Harris accepted Christ as her savior and this faith was her strength and her solace during the vicissitude of a busy life and in this faith she died on January 4, 1916, leaving the assurance that she was not afraid to die.

A husband, two children, two grandchildren, two brothers and one sister, besides other relatives and many friends, mourn the departure of this one, well beloved, who made so brave a fight for her life.

The funeral was held at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ray King, Thursday afternoon, conducted by her pastor, Rev. M. M. Cable of the Methodist church, and the remains were laid to rest in the Winterset cemetery.
