CARRIE GUILLIAMS DIED SATURDAY

Prominent St. Charles woman Succumbs at Age of 73 Years

ST. CHARLES – Mrs. Carrie Guilliams, prominent resident of this community, died Saturday, May 17 at her home here. She was 73 years of age.

Mrs. Guilliams was the former Carrie Evenella Johnston, daughter of John F. and Louisa Coltrane Johnston. She was born in St. Charles Sept. 25, 1878 and spent her entire life in this community.

She graduated from the St. Charles high school with the class of 1897, and on June 28, 1905, she was married to Charles C. Guilliams. His death occurred in 1945.

She had been a member of the St. Charles Methodist church since early life. She had served there as a Sunday school teacher, and for the past quarter century had directed the choir.

She was associated with her husband and her father in the J. F. Johnston bank and later in the St. Charles office of the Farmers and Merchants State bank. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, serving as worthy matron in 1908, and becoming a 50 year member in 1951.

Funeral services were held Tuesday from the St. Charles Methodist church in charge of the Rev. Eldon Haworth. Burial was made in the St. Charles cemetery.
