RAY EYERLY DIES WHILE AT WORK

Falls From Ladder while Spraying Trees at His Home

Ray V. Eyerly, one of the most respected citizens of the Winterset community for many years, died at his home just west of the city Tuesday morning. With his son, Kenneth Eyerly, he was engaged in spraying trees in his orchard, when he apparently was stricken with a heart attack. He fell from the top of the ladder on which he was working. He was rushed to the Memorial hospital, but died before arrival there.

Mr. Eyerly was 64 years of age. His entire life was spent in Madison county. He was born here Dec. 14, 1887, a son of George and Martha Howell Eyerly. His early life was spent in the West Star community.

He was married Dec. 28, 1910, to Mabel Wright. They lived for two years north of Lorimor, and seven years near Macksburg, before moving into Macksburg, where they operated a hardware store for several years. In 1928, they came to Winterset. Mr. Eyerly engaged in the produce business here for several years, later expanding that enterprise into a grocery store. In recent years he had been engaged in the nursery business just west of Winterset.

He was a member of the Winterset Methodist church.

Mr. and Mrs. Eyerly were the parents of six children, two of whom preceded the father in death. He is survived by his wife; four children, Kenneth Eyerly of Winterset, Mrs. Willard Rhine of Earlham, Mrs. Warner Wilson of Boulder, Colo., and Mrs. John Oldham of Winterset; and 12 grandchildren.

He also leaves a sister, Mrs. Alice Knight of Pasadena, Calif.; five brothers, Frank Eyerly of Altadena, Calif., Charles Eyerly of Brighton, Colo., Virgil Eyerly of Mason City, and Loren and Fred Eyerly of Winterset; his step-mother, Mrs. Clara Eyerly of Winterset; two half-sisters, Mrs. Eldon Thomas and Mrs. Ralph Shoemaker of Winterset; and five half-brothers, Emerson Eyerly of Winterset, Howard Eyerly of Brighton, Colo., Lloyd and Sam Eyerly of Des Moines, and Hugh Eyerly of Chicago, Ill.

Funeral services will be held this Thursday at 2 p.m. from the Winterset Methodist church. Burial will be made in the Winterset cemetery.
