BLOMQUIST RITES HELD SATURDAY

Long-Time Jackson Township resident Was Native of Sweden

Funeral services for August Blomquist, long-time Jackson township resident whose death occurred March 5 at the Memorial hospital, were held Saturday from the Early Chapel church. The Rev. Glenn Parrott, pastor of the Winterset Methodist church, and the Rev. John Sams, conducted the services. Burial was made in the Penn Center cemetery.

Mr. Blomquist was a native of Sweden, where he was born at Jonkoping on Feb. 17, 1880. He came to America at an early age, and almost his entire life was spent in Madison county.

He had been baptized in the Swedish Lutheran church in infancy. He was a member of the I.O.O.F, and for many years served on the Jackson township board of education.

He was married to Adela Speer on Feb. 17, 188_ (unreadable). They were the parents of 10 children. One son died in infancy; and another, Harold E. Blomquist, was lost during World War II while serving with the U. S. Navy.

Surviving are his wife; and eight children, Mrs. Dale Iiams of Murray, Mrs. Sidney Hartman of Winterset, Geraldine Blomquist of Winterset, Carl A. Blomquist of Dexter, Mrs. Leo Kerwan of Tenino, Wash., Mrs. Maude Beaman of Dexter, Mrs. Donald Rehard of Winterset, and Mrs. Winifred Bly of Adel.

B. A. Blomquist Died Wednesday

B. A. Bloomquist, prominent Jackson township farmer for many years, died early Wednesday, March 5 at the Winterset hospital. He would have been 78 years old Saturday. He and Mrs. Bloomquist celebrated their 48th wedding anniversary several weeks ago.

Hs is survived by his wife and eight children: Mrs. Dale Iiams of Murray; Mrs. S. J. Hartman of Winterset; Mrs. Leo Kerwin of Tenino, Washington; Mrs. Claude Beaman of Dexter; Mrs. Donald Reheard of Winterset; Mrs. Winifred Bly of Adel; Carl Bloomquist of Jackson township and Geraldine Bloomquist of Winterset.

Funeral arrangements had not been completed as the Echo went to press.

Transcriber Note: Gravestone has surname as Bloomquist, birth year is 1874. Full name is "Bror August Bloomquist" per Swedish Birth record.

A visit with August’s daughter, Mrs. Don Rehard (Augusta) states the family name is spelled both as Blomquist and Bloomquist. Her father signed his name as August Bloomquist-Blomquist. Augusta believes the correct spelling should be Blomquist.
