MICHAEL BREEN OF WINTERSET DIES

Heart Attack Fatal Sunday to Widely-Known Winterset Resident

Michael Breen, widely-known Madison county farmer and livestock buyer, died at his home in Winterset Sunday of a heart attack. He had attended church services that morning, and was stricken suddenly about 2 p.m.

Mr. Breen was 69 years of age. He was a life-long resident of the county, being born here Nov. 18, 1882, a son of Maurice and Katherine Breen. He was married April 12, 1910, to Margaret Johnson. Their home had been in Winterset for many years.

Surviving are his wife; three daughters, Mrs. Peter Cunningham of Winterset, Mrs. John Nolan of Panora, and Mrs. Charles Beeler of Winterset; three sons, Jack Breen of Winterset, Raymond Breen of Houston, Tex., and Robert Breen of Winterset, who left 10 days ago to work on a government base in Greenland. He also leaves 15 grandchildren; two sisters, Joan Breen of Chicago, and Mrs. Frank McDavitt of Omaha; and three brothers, Maurice Breen of Omaha, Joe Breen of Chicago, and John E. Breen of Des Moines.

Funeral services were held Wednesday morning from St. Joseph’s Catholic church in Winterset, with solemn requiem high Mass, the Rev. J. J. Judge, pastor or (of) the church, officiating. Father Judge was assisted by the Rev. Michael Kelleher of Bayard, as deacon, the Rev. J. J. McStay of Defiance, as sub-deacon, and the Rev. P. J. O’Leary of Des Moines, who gave the sermon.
