JOHN K. NICHOLS OF PERU IS DEAD

Long-Time Madison County Resident was 83 Years of Age

John K. Nichols, a resident of Madison county for most of his long life, died at his home in Peru on Wednesday of last week. He was 83 years of age.

Mr. Nichols was a native of Illinois, where he was born in Manard county on August 27, 1861, the son of Elijah and Lulu Nichols. He came to Madison county when he was 12 years old, and spent the remainder of his life here, with the exception of four years in Kansas and three years in Potawattamie county.

He was married to Harriett Hogg on April 9, 1882. They were the parents of five sons and one daughter. They are: Robert, Earnest and Elijah of Peru, Alvin of Davenport, George of Sioux City, and Zella of Carlisle.

In addition to the children, he is survived by his wife, 15 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held last Friday from the Peru Methodist church, in charge of Earl Travis. Burial was made in the Peru cemetery.
