ELIAS PRITCHARD, VAN METER, DIES

Former Winterset Resident Dies at Home in Van Meter

Elias Pritchard, Sr., long-time resident of the Van Meter community, died at his home there Sunday of a heart ailment. He was 82 years of age.

Mr. Pritchard was a native of Indiana, where he was born Nov. 20, 1864, the son of Henry and Malinda Pritchard. Most of his active years were spent as a farmer near Van Meter. After retiring he lived four years in Winterset and eight years in West Des Moines before returning to Van Meter.

On Oct. 15, 1885, he was married to Sarah Diser, who survives him. They were the parents of 17 children, 15 of whom survive. They are: Mrs. Lizzie Baker of DeSoto, Mrs. Lula Hawkinson of Adel, Mrs. Carrie Lauterbach and Mrs. Clara Carey, both of Des Moines, Mrs. Sophia Clark of Earlham, Mrs. Susie Eichner of St. Charles, Jerry Pritchard of Booneville, Martin Pritchard of Van Meter, John, Harry, Nelson, Sam and James Pritchard, all of Des Moines, Fred Pritchard, of Peru, and Elias Pritchard, Jr., of Winterset.

Funeral services were held this Wednesday from the Fisher Funeral home at Van Meter. Burial was made in the U. B. cemetery in Jefferson township.
