Death of William Gundy

Van Meter, Jan. 7. Special – William Gundy died Wednesday forenoon, January first, at the Iowa Methodist hospital, from an infection in his heart. He had been in poor health for some time, but was only bedfast a few weeks. He was 52 years of age and had made his home in this vicinity since 1900, when he returned from Kansas to work for Adam Shambaugh, where he remained for fifteen years. His funeral was held at the Union Chapel United Brethren church, Friday afternoon, with the service in charge of the pastor, Rev. J. H. Hampshire. A quartet, composed of Mrs. Wm. B. Overholt, Mrs. Chas. A. England, Wm. E. Shambaugh and J. H. Hampshire, furnished the musical numbers. The pall bearers were: Max Gutshall, Wm. E. Shambaugh, Wm. B. Overholt, Oren C. Shambaugh, William J. McAllister and Lloyd L. Shambaugh. The burial was in the Union Chapel cemetery. Mr. Gundy’s sister, Mrs. Addie Bailey, of Davenport, and his brother, Charles, of Belleville, Kansas, were here for the funeral. His other sisters and his aged father were not able to be here.
