Mrs. Mary Moore

Mary Ellen, daughter of John and Mary Crawford, was born in Lawrence county, Indiana, September 23, 1848, and passed away at her home in Winterset, March 27, 1930, aged 81 years, 6 months and 4 days.

She came with her parents to Iowa when two years old. They homesteaded on a farm two and one-half miles southeast of Winterset in 1850.

Her girlhood was spent in Madison county, where she was married to Phillip Moore, March 7, 1867. To this union eight children were born, four of whom preceded her in death.

All of her life had been spent in Madison county except for six years they lived near Seneca, Nebraska. She became a member of the Primitive Baptist church, July 24, 1887. She remained a faithful, active member, fully believing in the salvation that comes with being saved by grace.

She was a devoted wife and mother and during her sickness was a patient sufferer. She had a smile for all who visited her, and welcomed death without fear and made all of her own funeral plans.

Mr. Moore passed away in 1926 and those who remain are three daughters: Emma in the home, Mrs. Olive Morris, of Mullen, Nebraska, and Mrs. Pearl Hartman, of Creston, and one son, Homer, of Stockton, California. She leaves also 10 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, a sister, Mrs. Fred Alley, and her brother, John L. Crawford, of Winterset, and many other relatives and friends.
