BETTY L. THORNTON DIED LAST FRIDAY

Winterset High School Girl Succumbed at Hospital in Iowa City

Betty Lucille Thornton, second victim of the infantile paralysis outbreak in Madison county this month, died last Friday at the state hospital in Iowa City at the age of 13 years. She had been ill six days.

Betty was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Cleo Thornton, and was born Feb. 21, 1926 at Benton. Most of her life was spent at Diagonal, but in March, 1937, she moved with her parents to a farm in Scott township where she had since lived.

She had entered the Winterset high school this fall and had made a wide circle of friends among her classmates.

She is survived by her parents; two brothers, Don and Clair, both at home; her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John Thornton; all of Winterset; and a grandmother in Diagonal.

A private funeral service was held at the Winterset cemetery in charge of the Rev. Tom Foglesong, pastor of the Winterset Church of Christ.
