STANLEY L. SHAW VICTIM OF SUICIDE

Webster Township Farmer Ends Life With Carbon Monoxide Gas

Stanley L. Shaw of Webster township, one of this county's most esteemed citizens, ended his own life at his farm home last Thursday. He was 47 years of age.

Mr. Shaw was found in his closed car, in a field on his farm, with gas from the exhaust piped into the car.

Mr. Shaw was a life-long resident of this county. His death occurred on the farm on which he was born, and on which he had spent his life with the exception of three years in which he was engaged in the insurance business in Winterset with his father.

He was born March 27, 1892, the son of Cass and Lillie Shaw. He was married to Grace Chace on Feb. 28, 1919. They were the parents of two children, Marguerite and Gene.

Mr. Shaw was a graduate of the Macksburg high school and was a member of the Oak Grove Evangelistic church.

In addition to his wife, and two children, he is survived by his mother, Mrs. M. C. Shaw of Winterset; a sister, Mrs. Ava Leveke of Winterset; a half-sister, Mrs. Cordelia Smith of Omaha; and a half-brother, S. M. Jollife of Villisca.

Funeral services were held Saturday from the Methodist church in Winterset, in charge of the Rev. W. B. Tarr of Van Horne, the Rev. O. K. Schlesselman of Hancock, and the Rev. Paul Beckman of Oak Grove. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.

MORTUARY - Stanley Lee Shaw

Stanley Shaw was born on a farm in Webster township, Madison county, Iowa on March 27, 1892 and passed away on this same farm May 25, 1939 at the age of 47 years, one month and 28 days.

He lived on the home farm all the time except for a period of three years when in his early manhood he and his father were in the insurance business in Winterset. After his marriage to Miss Grace Chase on Feb. 18, 1919, they moved to the home farm. There they made their home, which was always a welcome place to visit. Two children were born to the home, Marguerite and Gene.

As a father in the home, Stanley was a good provider, a devoted father and sought for the best for the whole family. He was an active worker in all worth-while enterprises of his community, both in school and church life.

His health did not permit a robust career as some men might had had, but his willing and kindly spirit were not to be excelled. His ideals in life were not to be surpassed in the interests of honesty and sobriety.

Stanley has been a member in good standing in the Oak Grove Evangelical church. His active participation in time and gift will be greatly missed.

He leaves to mourn: his wife and two children, Marguerite and Gene, his aged mother, his sister, Ava Leveke, a half brother, S. M. Joliff of Vallisca, a half sister, Mrs. Cordelia Smith of Omaha, Neb., and many other relatives, beside a large number of friends and relatives.
