Nelle Frances, daughter of George and Rebecca Pratt, was born near Winterset, Iowa, June 3rd, 1882, and after a lingering illness, passed away at her home in Scott township on July 24th at the age of 57 years, one month and 21 days. She was the youngest in a family of five children, and was preceded in death by her father, mother, two sisters and one brother.

On January 19, 1898 she was united in marriage to Edward H. Paullin at Greenfield, Iowa. They went to housekeeping in Winterset and have lived in Madison county continuously. They were the parents of two children, Frances Eileen who passed away at the age of one year, and Gyle C. Paullin of this county.

Mrs. Paullin united with the Jefferson United Brethren church 24 years ago, and attended regularly while living in that locality.

She was an immaculate housekeeper, loved her home and her family and was happiest when doing something for them. She will be remembered as a true friend, a faithful wife and a loving mother.

About a year ago, Mrs. Paullin became ill. She was taken to the Methodist hospital in Des Moines where she submitted to an operation which proved to be very serious. After three weeks she was brought home, but never regained her health. Her suffering was intense, but she bore it with patience.

Those left to mourn her loss are her husband, E. H. Paullin, her son, Gyle, his wife and three children, Wayne, Gerald and Frances, one brother, Will Pratt of Winterset, several nieces and nephews and many friends.

Funeral services were held July 26 from the Ramsey-Richards funeral home in charge of the Rev. Valentine Hites of Lorimor. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
