IDLEWILD CATTERLIN Died Early Monday

Mrs. Idlewild Catterlin, for many years a well known Winterset woman, and widow of the late John Catterlin of this community, died at her home here, early Mnday morning after an extended illness.

Mrs. Catterlin's life is best recounted in an obituary written by herself on September 13, 1931, it was:

"Idlewild Redfield, daughter of James and Mary Eu Redfield, was born October 26, 1854, at Camanche, Clinton county, Iowa, where the family lived until the death of the father in the Civil war. The widow, with her three children, moved to the north part of the county to the home of her father."

"Here she attended the public school, where either her mother, her aunt, or her grandfather was the teacher, and later she attended school in Clinton. Afterward the family moved to Davenport where she continued her education, graduating from the city high school with the class of 1876."

"Soon after she went to Tama county, where she taught for 20 years, eight years in the rural schools and 12 years in Toledo."

"While still a child she united with the Methodist Episcopal church and continued her membership during her lifetime."

"August 11, 1898, she was married in Toledo, Iowa, to John Catterlin of Winterset, and this has been her home since that time."

"Soon after coming here she was initiated into Winterset chapter 180 of the Order of Easter Star, also was elected a member of the Current Topic club, and continued her membership with both until her death."

"She has been a member of the Winterset Cemetery association since it was organized, and a member of the board of Trustees of the Winterset public library since 1911."

"Her parents, husband, a brother and a sister, Mrs. Edward Hyder, have all preceded her in death."

Mrs. Catterlin is survived by two foster daughters, Mrs. Mary Thompson of Macksburg and Mrs. I. W. Barnett of Whittier, California.

Funeral services were to be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. from the Methodist church in charge of the pastor, the Rev. M. R. Talley. Burial was to be made in the Winterset cemetery.
