Succumbed Early Saturday Morning at His Home in Winterset
James J. Kirby, well known citizen of Winterset, died at his home here of heart trouble at 3:30 a.m. last Saturday. He was 65 years of age.
Mr. Kirby had made his home in Winterset for the past several years, coming here from Marshalltown, where he formerly lived. He was a native of Madison county, and was born on March 27, 1872.
He was married to Miss Agnes Gavin at Churchville on February 11, 1902. They were the parents of two children, both of whom died in infancy. Mrs. Kirby survives her husband.
Funeral services were held from St. Joseph's Catholic church in Winterset, Monday, in charge of the pastor, the Rev. William Hahessy. Burial was made in the Mt. Calvery cemetery at Churchville. The pallbearers were: John Hansen, Pat Morrissey, Edward J. Hartley, Robert O'Laughlin, James Monahan, and Mike Loftus.

James J. Kirby, 66, died at his home Saturday following an illness of six months. Mr. Kirby, a son of Mr. and Mrs. William Kirby, was born in Madison county, March 27, 1872. He was married to Agnes Gavin, February 11, 1902 and to this union were born two children, both dying in infancy.
Mr. Kirby had been employed with the Chicago Great Western railroad for seventeen active years, retiring from service four and one-half years ago.
Requiem Mass was conducted by the Rev. William Hahessy, Monday morning at nine o’clock in St. Joseph’s church. Burial was made in Calvary cemetery in Churchville. Pall bearers were John Hansen, Mike Loftus, Ed Hartley, Pat Morrissey, Jim Monaghan and Tom Weidman.
