Well-Known Carpenter for Many Years in That Community

Samuel G. Huffman, a life-long resident of this community, died at an Osceola Nursing home last Saturday, March 5. He was 84 years old, and had been in delicate health in recent years.
Mr. Huffman was the son of Thomas and Elizabeth Huffman, and was born Aug. 16, 1864, in a log cabin in Ohio township. His active life was spent as a carpenter.
He was married May 25, 1889 to Rebecca Mitchell. They were the parents of one son, Elmer P. Huffman. The wife and mother died in 1900.
On Jan. 14, 1903, he was married to Carrie Howell, of New Virginia. They were the parents of seven children, one of whom died in infancy. The second wife also preceded the husband in death, in 1940.
Surviving are four sons, Elmer Huffman of American Falls, Ida., Leo Huffman of St. Charles, Howard Huffman of Borger, Tex., and John Huffman of Murray; and three daughters, Hazel of Adel, Gertrude of Des Moines, and Helen of Long Beach, Calif.; nine grandchildren; and two sisters, Mrs. Allie Lee of Afton and Mrs. Ida Barnett of Chicago.
Funeral services were held from the Kale Funeral home Monday, in charge of the Rev. W. J. Fowler. Burial was made in the New Virginia cemetery.
