KATHERINE HOUSTON OF ST. CHARLES DIES

Well-Known Resident There In Failing Health Past Year

Mrs. Katherine Houston, a well known resident of the St. Charles community for many years, died Friday, April 29, at the Methodist hospital in Des Moines. She had been in rapidly failing health since the death of her husband, Harry Houston, a year ago.

Mrs. Houston was 67 years of age at the time of her death. She was the former Katherine Luke, daughter of Theodore and Mary Luke and was born near St. Marys on Sept. 3, 1881. She was married to Harry Houston on Jan. 17, 1917, and spent the remainder of her life at St. Charles, with the exception of six months in Martensdale.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Arnetha Bock of Chicago and Mrs. Mary Griffith of Winterset; two sons, Richard Houston of St. Charles and Franklin Houston of Chicago; two grandchildren, and three sisters, Mrs. Dora Gehringer of St. Marys, Mrs. Margaret Hillyer of Decatur, Ill., and Mrs. Clara Nugent of Denver, Colo.

Funeral services were held Monday from Immaculate Conception church at St. Marys, in charge of the pastor, the Rev. Father Phelan. Burial was made in the St. Marys cemetery.
