WILLIAM PETTY DIED MONDAY MORNING

Former Local Resident Passed Away At Home Of Daughter in Earlham.

This community was saddened and shocked Monday to learn of the death of Wm. Petty, a former resident of near Earlham. Mr. Petty was in the usual state of health until about five weeks ago when he suffered a slight stroke from which he seemed to be recovering. However he became worse early Sunday morning and passed away at the home of his daughter and son-in-law Mr. and Mrs. Fred Hodson early Monday morning September 20, 1937.

OBITUARY

William P. Petty was born October 27, 1861, in Henry county, Illinois. He was the youngest of four children born to Nathan and Elizabeth Petty, the parents, one brother and two sisters having passed away several years ago.

When a small child he removed with his parents to a farm near Delta, Iowa, where he grew to manhood. In 1882, he married Ida Waddell who passed away September 16, 1916. Three daughters were born to them; Maude, Mary and Mrs. Fred Hodson. Maude and Mary dying in infancy.

Sunday morning always found him in his place at the Methodist church where he took an active part in both services and choir.

He was also a Mason and Eastern Star having transferred from Earlham to Valley Junction where he had made his home for the last fifteen years.

On February 14, 1918 he married Clara Brooker who passed away March 7, 1933.

Funeral services were conducted at the Welch Funeral Home at 2 p.m. September 22, 1937 by Rev. Louis Watson, a friend of the family. Interment was in the Earlham cemetery.
