MORTUARY

Dessa M. Pointer of Earlham was born March 21, 1867 and departed this life February 20, 1933, at the age of 65 years and eleven months after a brief illness at the Winterset hospital.

She united with the Presbyterian church in early girlhood and later with the Church of Christ at Norwalk.

She was united in marriage March 30, 1891 to Leonard A. Mathews and to this union were born three sons and six daughters: William Franklin who preceded her in death June 20, 1920, Edward A. of Scranton, Austin G. (Bert) of Granger, Jessie Weaver and Elizabeth Cartwright of Des Moines, May Janes of Patterson, Emma Jacobson and Ellda Sheets of Earlham and Hazel Bell of Perry. She also leaves a husband, 4 sisters, 22 grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.

She was a loving wife and mother and greatly devoted to her husband and children and home.

Short services were held at the home in Earlham and at the Church of Christ at Norwalk. She was laid to rest in the Norwalk cemetery and funeral services were conducted by Reverend Fay of Earlham.

Dessa May Mathews

Dessa May Pointer was born March 21, 1867 at Winterset and died after a brief illness in the hospital at Winterset February 20 at the age of 65 years and 11 months.

She united with the United Brethren church in early girlhood, later uniting with the Church of Christ where she continued her membership the remainder of her life.

She was married to Leonard A. Mathews March 3, 1891. Nine children were born to them, Austin G. of Granger; Edward A. of Scranton; Jessie Weaver and Elizabeth Cartwright of Des Moines; May Jones of Patterson; Eliza Sheets and Emma Jacobson of Earlham and Hazel Bell of Perry. A son, William Franklin, is deceased.

Surviving are her husband and eight children, four brothers, four sisters, twenty-two grandchildren and other relatives.
