Milton E. Stephenson, well known resident of Barney, died Saturday, March 24th at the age of 67 years. For the past twenty-five years he has had charge of the Barney post office. Mr. Stephenson was a son of Sarah and Thomas W. Stephenson. He was born near Batavia in Jefferson county, and lived there until he was a young man. He enlisted in the army at the beginning of the Spanish-American war and served until its close, being in camp at Jacksonville, Florida.
The marriage of Mr. Stephenson and Miss Elizabeth Young took place, February 25, 1901. His wife and their son Wade, a sister, Mrs. Barbara Lewis of Newberg, and a brother Harry of Pierre, South Dakota survive him. He also leaves two grandsons, Robert and James of Grimes. His parents, five sisters and two brothers have preceded him in death.
The Stephensons moved to Barney in 1901, where they have since resided. For several years he was foreman of the Madison county cement gang.
The Rev. H. L. Olmstead, pastor of the Church of Christ, conducted his funeral services in the Barney Church of Christ, Monday March 26th, at 2 o’clock and burial was in the Barney cemetery.
