JOHN PRIOR

John Prior, the son of Charles and Ann Prior was born in Wokingham, England September 22, 1874, and passed away at his home in Earlham, Iowa on June 16, 1965 at the age of 90 years, 8 months and 25 days.

Shortly before his 17th birthday he ventured across the Atlantic Ocean to America, making his home with his grandparents in Princeton, Illinois. With the exception of his younger brother, Charles, his immediate family remained in England.

He was united in marriage November 19, 1902 to Della Hornby at Des Moines, Iowa. To this union were born twins, who died in infancy; two daughters, Minnie and Mildred; and a son, John.

His love for children was strongly felt throughout the neighborhood. They were always dropping in to play a game or just to chat. He was spry and enjoyed life. He will long be remembered for his remarkable sense of humor, kindness and generosity. His faith in God and mankind was beyond reproach. He was a member of the Church of Christ in Earlham.

Preceding him in death were infant twins, Dorothy and Donald; his parents; two brothers, Tom and Harry; and two sisters, Sarah and Jane.

He is survived by his wife, Della; two daughters, Mrs. E. E. Peers, of West Des Moines and Mrs. Clyde Brittain, of Earlham and a son John of Orient. Also 8 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. A brother, Charles resides at Shelby, Iowa and a host of friends and relatives.
