Charles “Chuck” Jurgensen, 79, of Earlham died March 5, 2007, at Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset.

A memorial service was held Saturday, March 10, at the Earlham School Auditorium with Ernest Baiotto officiating. A private interment of the cremains took place at Dexter Cemetery.

Chuck Jurgensen was born Oct. 22, 1927, in Brook Park, Minn., to Gerhart “Ole” and Anna (Bundtzen) Jurgensen and resided in Earlham for most of his life. Chuck co-owned and operated the Sinclair Service Station in Dexter from 1959-61. In 1989, he retired from the Super Valu Warehouse. Chuck also was active in the community, serving on the Earlham City Council and being a “multi-gallon” blood donor.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Meriam; one son, Kevin; a brother, Dan Jurgensen; and two sisters, Joan Brooker and Ida Mapes.

He is survived by two sons, Craig Jurgensen of Austin, Minn., and Kent Jurgensen of Johnston; three daughters, Kathi Jurgensen of Encinitas, Calif., Kay “Kasey” Jurgensen of Iowa City and Kristin Usherwood of San Antonio, Texas; two brothers, Bill Jurgensen of Winterset and Robert Jurgensen of LaGrande, Ore.; four sisters, Irene Houghtaling of Indianola, Louise Wells of LaGrande, Ore., Lucy Clark of Altoona and Patsy Radtke of Randolph, Wis.; and 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Arrangements were handled by Kuhn Funeral Homes of Dexter, Earlham and Redfield.

Memorial services were held for Charles “Chuck” Jurgensen on Saturday, March 10, 2007 at the Earlham School Auditorium in Earlham, Iowa. Ernest Baiotto officiated and Debbie Jones played the piano. Soloist were Devin Smith who sang “Amazing Grace” and “To Each His Own” and Kathy Hopkins who sang “Beyond The Sunset”.

Urnbearers were Bill Jurgensen, Don Algreen, Wayne Davison, Jerry Cairns, Roy Wells, Kenny Wilder and Virgil Seaton.

Honorary urnbearers were Matthew Jurgensen, Mark Jurgensen, Aaron Jurgensen, Erik Jurgensen, Nathan Jurgensen, Glen Usherwood and Howard Pewitt.

Chuck Jurgensen, a loving father, brother, friend and avid outdoorsman passed March 5, 2007 at the Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset, Iowa at the age of 79 years, 4 months and 12 days. Chuck was born the son of Gerhart “Ole” and Anna Bundtzen Jurgensen in Brook Park, MN on October 22, 1927.

Chuck lived most of his life in Earlham, Iowa. Chuck co-owned and operated the Sinclair Service Station in Dexter from 1959-1961. He retired from the Super Valu Warehouse in 1989. Chuck enjoyed hunting, trapping, fishing, his many trips to Alaska, playing cards and spending time with family and friends. Chuck was especially fond of nature. He loved waling through the woods and enjoying its beauty, stopping to pick fresh mushrooms each spring. Chuck was active in the community. He served on the Earlham City Council and was a “Multi-Gallon” blood donor.

Chuck enjoyed his garden, especially growing his own “Jurgensen Jumbo Popcorn”. Chuck and Meriam traveled many places but they enjoyed their trips to Hawaii and Acapulco the most.

Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Meriam in 1995, son Kevin, brother Dan Jurgensen, sister Joan Brooker, and sister Ida Mapes.

Chuck is survived by son Craig Jurgensen (Becki) of Austin, MN; daughter Kathi Jurgensen of Encinitas, CA; daughter Kay “Kasey” Jurgensen (Howard Pewitt) of Iowa City; son Kent Jurgensen (Leslie) of Johnston; daughter Kristin Usherwood (Glen) of San Antonio, TX; sister Irene Houghtaling of Indianola; sister Louise Wells (Roy) of LaGrande, OR; brother Bill Jurgensen (Margaret) of Winterset; sister Lucy Clark (Herman) of Altoona; brother Robert Jurgensen (Gracie) of LaGrande, OR; sister Patsy Radtke (Dennis) of Randolph, WI; 12 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and friends.

Private interment of cremains was held in the Dexter Cemetery in Dexter, Iowa. Kuhn Funeral Homes was in charge of arrangements.
