August 1900Thomas C. Barker
died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. T. C. Bridge, near Hazelton, Kansas, August 23rd, 1900, aged 76 years and 9 months. He had been greatly afflicted with paralysis for several years. Mr. Barker had been a member of the Baptist church and lived a good Christian life. His last utterances concerning his faith in God were, that he was fully prepared to go. He was an old soldier who served in the 23rd Iowa during the war until he was honorably discharged at St. Louis for total disabilities. Three daughters and one son reside in Iowa to which place the remains were taken for burial. Mrs. Bridges accompanied the remains of her father to their last resting place.
Deceased was born in North Carolina and emigrated when young with his father to Indiana. He was married to Miss Burzilla Hurd in the year 1845. About the year 1855 they moved to Iowa and resided on a farm.
Uncle Tomy, as he was familiarly known in Iowa, was well liked by all. His death leaves great sadness in the hearts of his friends.
A short funeral service was held at the home of the Rev. G. L. Hayes officiating, before Mrs. Bridge started on her sad journey.
The News extends sympathy to the family of Mr. T. C. Bridge and other relatives of Thomas C. Barker.

Died, August 22, in Kansas, Thomas Barker, formerly an old resident of this place. The remains were brought to this place for burial.
The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Cross at the Baptist church on Sunday morning.
