Friday, November 8, 1889Mrs. Sarah A. Cox, of Scott Township, Madison county, died at her late residence Oct. 30, 1889.
Sarah A. Johnson was born in Kentucky, June 4, 1820. Came with her parents to Keokuk, Iowa in 1838. Was married to Theodore Cox, April 16th, 1844. Removed to Mahaska, Co. in 1846 and to Madison county in 1854.
She was the mother of eight children, six of whom are still living. Mrs. Cox was brought up under the care of a devoted Christian mother and in 1960 united with the Disciples church at Winterset, of which denomination she remained a faithful and devoted member till death. The deceased was a woman of beautiful character and always bringing sunshine and gladness into the home. She has left a large circle of friends who deeply mourn her demise and most tenderly sympathize with the bereaved family.
The funeral took place from the late home on Friday, Nov. 1st, conducted by Rev. J. R. Horswell, pastor of the Methodist church and the remains were tenderly laid to rest in the city cemetery. (Burial in Winterset cemetery)
