MRS. KATE HUGLIN PASSES AT DEXTER

Former Bevington Resident Succumbs at Age of 82 Years.

Mrs. Kate Huglin, former resident, died at the home of her son, John Huglin of Dexter on Thursday morning, May 12. Mrs. Huglin, who was 82 years of age, had been ill for about a week.

Funeral services were held Monday, May 16 at one o'clock at the Presbyterian church in Dexter and burial was made in the Blair Chapel cemetery southwest of Bevington.

Mrs. Huglin was the former Kate Martens and was an aunt of the Martens boys of Martensdale. They formerly lived here on a farm which they sold in 1917 to John Cassady, Sr. At that time she moved to a farm near Earlham, Mr. Huglin dying a number of years ago.

She is survived by four sons and five daughters, Mrs. Barbara Evans and William Huglin, both of Minnesota, Mrs. Emma Howell of Martensdale, Mrs. Florence Shearer of Colfax, Mrs. Etta Riley of Grand Junction, Colo., Mrs. Grace Ford of Phoenix, Ariz., Ernest Huglin of California and George and John Huglin, both of Dexter.

Mrs. Catherine Huglin, 83, Passed Away Thursday

Funeral Services Here Sunday Afternoon

Catherine M. Huglin, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Martens was born March 12, 1866, near Churchville, Iowa in Warren County and passed away at her home near Dexter May 12, 1949, at the age of 83 years and two months.

She was united in marriage to William Huglin, October 19, 1883 at Booneville. To this union ten children were born namely Margaret, who died in infancy, Barbara ---- of Waterloo, William of Doll----, Emma Howell of Martensdale, ---- of Dexter, Etta Riley of Grand Junction, Colorado, Florence ---- of Colfax, Grace Ford of Prescott, Arizona, John of Dexter, Ernest of Maywood, California, all of which were here to attend their mother’s funeral. Mrs. Huglin also leaves to mourn 23 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren along with a host of friends and relatives from Churchville, Earlham, and Dexter who shared with the family in this hour of bereavement.

Mrs. Huglin was a member of the Presbyterian church in whose membership she remained until the day of death.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon, May 16, at the Presbyterian Church with Rev. Roy E. Jones officiating. Pallbearers were Mrs. Huglin’s six nephews, L. Martens, William Martens, Fred Martens, Clarence Martens, Grant Martens, and Irvin Martens. A quartette composed of Mrs. Orville Grant, Mrs. John Shepherd, Kenneth Neal and Marlin Piatt accompanied by Marie Gundrum sang “Old Rugged Cross” It’s Good Night Here and Good Morning Up There” and “In the Garden.” She was laid to rest at Blair Chapel near St. Charles.

Out of town relatives and friends who attended the funeral were Ernest Evans of Sun Leandro, Calif., Mrs. Marie Lubbert and Mrs. Louise Lubbert of Riceville, Iowa, Ilo Gliedt of Denver, Iowa, Inez Clark, Irvin Evans and Harold Evans of Waterloo, Robert Shearer of Rolla, Mo., Jimmie Shearer, Mr. and Mrs. David Alldrich and Mrs. Laura Chambers and daughter of Des Moines, Mrs. Anna Martens of Winterset, Mr. and Mrs. Emil Martens and Mrs. Sophman of Cass county and Mr. and Mrs. Phillip Duff of Earlham.
