July 1907This community was saddened last Saturday morning by the announcement that Mrs. S. Renshaw died suddenly about seven o'clock. She had not been in the best of health for several weeks but was feeling as well as usual that morning. She was sitting on the couch drinking a cup of hot water her husband had brought her. Mr. Renshaw had started for the kitchen and before reaching it heard the cup crash on the floor. He turned to see the cause and saw his wife falling over. When he reached the couch she was unconscious. He called in some of the neighbors and summoned a physician, but life had fled and no earthly effort could avail to bring it back.
Mrs. Renshaw was a woman loved by all who knew her, and her death will be mourned by a wide circle of friends. She possessed an unusually bright mind of a literary turn and was one of the organizers of the Friday club, of which she was a moving spirit to the last. Her pall bearers were members of the club.
The funeral service was held Sunday afternoon in Friends church conducted by Revs. Harvey, C. S. White and J. W. Stribling and was attended by a large number of friends. Interment was in Earlham cemetery.
Miss Serena Bridges was born in Des Moines, Iowa, February 6, 1853; departed this life July 6, 1907, at the age of 54 years, 5 months. She was married to Mr. S. Renshaw January 9, 1884. When a girl she united with the Church of Christ in De Soto in Feb. 1874. Feb. 19, 1893 she transferred her membership to the M. E. church at Fairview and again from Fairview to the M. E. church in Earlham in September 1902. She loved the church and her regret was that she was not able to do more while there was so much that ought to be done. Mrs. Renshaw leaves her husband, six sisters, two brothers, her mother and of Mr. Renshaw's family, two daughters, and two sons who will mourn her departure.
