Died: April 9th, at her home near Hanley, Mrs. Margaret Hattel aged 71 years 11 months 13 days. Margaret Bower (Bowser) was born in Green Co., Pa., April 26, 1819, married George Hattel Dec. 6, 1841, removed to Ia. in 1854.

Nearly thirty-seven years of her useful life was spent in Iowa where a large circle of her friends and acquaintances mourn her absence. Cruel death through the agency of that dreadful disease, paralysis, has torn her unrelentlessly away from the happy threshold her gentle voice even gave comfort to her loving children, who though grown to manhood and womanhood, had not outgrown a mother’s counsel.

Her husband's death preceeded hers by nearly 15 years. Eight children survive her, Charles, George & Lena still remain upon the old homestead, William of Calhoun Co., Mrs. Lyla Ruth of Winterset, Mrs. Kate Mortimor of Dallas Co., Mrs. Mary Congar & Joseph of Neb., all of whom were present at the funeral but the last 3 named. The services were conducted by Rev. Charles Hoover from Luke 8 & 52 in the presence of many friends.

The remains were laid to rest in the Blair Chapel cemetery.
