M. C. LEINARD DIED HERE LAST FRIDAY

Early Settler Had Lived in Madison County for 86 Years

The crumbling ranks of the real pioneers in Madison county lost another member last Friday in the death of M. C. Leinard, who succumbed at his home here at the age of 87 years.

Mr. Leinard had lived in Madison county for 86 years, having come here with his parents in 1853 when he was less than a year old. He was born in Moorefield, O., on Feb. 28, 1852, the son of Jacob and Hester Ruby Leinard.

Mr. Leinard had spent all his long life in Madison county with the exception of a few years in Missouri.

He was married to Mary M. Smith on Dec. 25, 1873. They were the parents of a son and a daughter.

Mr. Leinard taught in the rural schools of Madison county for about 15 years. Throughout his life he maintained a keen interest in young people, and in the Methodist church, in which he was licensed as a local precher. He was the secretary of the Madison county Sunday school association for many years.

Mr. Leinard is survived by his wife; the two children, Ernest R. Leinard of Winterset, and Mrs. Irma Pruitt of Edgemont, South Dakota; eight grandchildren; and eleven great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held from the First Methodist church of Winterset Monday, in charge of the pastor, the Rev. J. R. McNichols. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
