Winterset Resident Passes at Home Here at Age of 88 Years
William T. Libby, one of Winterset's oldest residents, died at his home here Monday at the age of 88 years.
Mr. Libby had lived in Madison county since 1901. He operated a farm near here until 1913, when he retired and moved into Winterset.
He was a native of Ontario, Canada, where he was born March 15, 1851, the son of William and Eliza Libby. He came with his parents as a boy to Kane county, Ill. He lived there until 1878.
On July 3, 1868, he was married to Susan R. Moulding. They moved to Greene county, Iowa, in 1878, and to Madison county in 1901.
Mr. and Mrs. Libby were the parents of 11 children, three of whom died in infancy. Mrs. Libby succumbed in 1934. Mr. Libby leaves two daughters, Mrs. Myrtle Lynn of Greene county and Mrs. Etta Dillinger of Winterset; six sons, William, Charles, Fred, Albert, Frank and William Libby of Winterset; 25 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday from the Ramsey-Richards funeral home, in charge of the Rev. J. R. McNichols, pastor of the Methodist church. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
