Funeral services were conducted Saturday, June 25, at 1 p.m. from St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Winterset for Jane Morrissey Gavitt, 34, who died Wednesday, June 22, 1977, at St. Luke's Methodist Hospital in Cedar Rapids. She was the daughter of Winterset's mayor and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Morrissey.

Mrs. Gavitt was born August 23, 1942, in Winterset and was a resident here until 1960. She was married to Louis W. Gavitt on October 15, 1971, in Winterset.

A resident of Cedar Rapids and Marion since 1966, Mrs. Gavitt was employed at St. Luke's for eleven years as head of the Chemistry Department. She was a registered medical technician and interned at St. Joseph's Hospital Medical Technology School in Chicago in 1964 and 1965. A 1960 graduate of Winterset High School, Mrs. Gavitt received her degree from the University of Iowa in 1964.

She was affiliated with St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Marion and held memberships in Birth Right and Make Today Count.

Survivors include her husband, Louis; a son, Billy Gavitt; a daughter, Sarah Gavitt; two brothers, Ed Morrissey of Ft. Dodge and Jim Morrissey of Guthrie Center, a sister, Jean Morrissey of Ft. Dodge (her twin) and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Morrissey of Winterset.

Officiating at Saturday's services was Father Klein of Greenfield. A prayer service was conducted Friday evening at Turner Chapel East in Cedar Rapids by Rev. J. David Pepper. Burial was made at the Winterset Cemetery.
