JOSEPH H. KIRK

Joseph H. Kirk was born in Jackson county, Indiana, May 20, 1846. He was united in marriage to Miss Anna Derrell, February 21, 1869. To this union six children were born, J. E. Kirk, Mrs. Emma Foster, T. E. Kirk, Mrs. Cora Emerson and Clyde Kirk - - . Those left to mourn his loss are two daughters and one son, Mrs. Emma Foster of Lorimor, F. E. Kirk of St. Joseph, Missouri, and Mrs. Cora Emerson of Clayton, New Mexico. His wife and three children preceded him in death.

He became an Odd Fellow 30 years ago and for the last twelve years has made his home at the I.O.O.F. state home at Mason City, Iowa, where he passed away March 12, 1934 at the age of 87 years, 9 months and 20 days. Most of his long life having been spent in Madison county. He was converted to God when a young man and has been an earnest and faithful Christian.

Besides his children he leaves to mourn two sisters, Mrs. Retta Prather and Mrs. Sylvia Campbell both of Winterset, sixteen grandchildren and twenty-eight great grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.

He has been a member of the M. E. church for over 50 years.

The funeral was conducted from the M. E. church in Peru on March 15, 1934, by a nephew A. F. Dorrell of Gilman City, Missouri, and in the presence of a large audience of friends. The body was laid to rest in the Peru cemetery, the I..O.O.F. having charge at the grave.

DEATH OF JOSEPH KIRK

Joseph H. Kirk, former Madison county farmer, died at the I. O. O. F. home at Mason City on March 12th. He was nearly 87 years of age.

Funeral services are to be held from the Methodist church at Peru today at 2 p. m. The Winterset Odd Fellows lodge, of which he was a member, will be in charge. Burial will be made at Peru.
