JAMES EVANS DIED SUDDENLY MONDAY

Douglas Township Farmer Passes at Home Where He Was Born

James V. Evans, a prominent farmer and member of a pioneer Douglas township family, died at his farm home northwest of Winterset Monday. Mr. Evans' death came suddenly from a stroke, although he had been in declining health for the past two years. He died on the farm where he was born, three and one-half miles northwest of Winterset.

Mr. Evans was a life-long resident of Madison county. He was born here on Feb. 1, 1871, and was 68 years of age at the time of his death. He never married.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his only brother, Lee, who died in June, 1930. He is survived by his two sisters, Mrs. Chestina Whetstone of Winterset and Mrs. Ella Klingman of Douglas township, a niece, Mrs. Marie Peterson of Des Moines, and a nephew, John Evans Klingman of Douglas township.

Funeral services were held from the Ramsey-Richards funeral home in Winterset Wednesday, in charge of the Rev. Tom Foglesong, pastor of the Church of Christ. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.

Had Lived Entire Life In Douglas Twp. Funeral Held Wednesday.

James Evans, well known Douglas township farmer, died Monday afternoon at his farm home, three and one-half miles northwest of Winterset. Mr. Evans who was 68 years of age, had been in declining health for the past two years but was seriously ill only as few days.

James Van Everie Evans, the son of Asa W. and Mary Henderson Evans, pioneer settlers of Madison county, was born Feb. 1, 1871, on the farm northwest of town where he made his lifetime home.

The surviving relatives are: two sisters, Mrs. Chestina Whetstone of Winterset and Mrs. Ella Klingman of Douglas township; one niece, Mrs. Marie Peterson and family Gayln, Merl, Buena and Eugene of Des Moines; one nephew John Evans Klingman and son Donnie Wayne also of Douglas township. He was preceded in death by his father, mother and only brother, Lee who died in June 1930.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at two-thirty in the Ramsey-Richards funeral home, conducted by the Rev. Tom Foglesong, pastor of the Church of Christ. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
