Funeral Services Will Be Held Thursday From Tidrick's
J. W. Eldridge, one of Winterset's most widely known citizens, died suddenly Tuesday of a heart attack. He was 77 years of age. His death occurred at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Walter Abrahams, where he had made his home since the death of his wife, six years ago.
He was a member of the Masonic lodge for more than 50 years, and of the Knights of Pythias for 35 years.
Mr. Eldridge was a life-long resident of Madison county, and had lived in Winterset for the past 38 years. He was born on a farm near St. Charles, the son of William and Rebecca Eldridge. As a young man he farmed near St. Charles for a while before moving to Winterset.
Mr. Eldridge served several terms as night marshall in Winterset, and for many years had served as constable in this community.
He was married on Feb. 29, 1888, to Julia Ann Dowler. They were the parents of three daughters, one of whom, Mrs. Mattie Essick of Des Moines, died this February.
He is survived by two daughters: Mrs. Virgie Abrahams of Winterset and Mrs. Audrey Clark of Des Moines; six grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and three brothers: L. A. and C. A. Eldridge of Lorimor and Melvin Eldridge of Des Moines.
Funeral services will be held tomorrow (Thursday) at 2 p.m. from the Tidrick funeral home in Winterset. Burial will be made in the Winterset cemetery.

A life-long resident of Madison county, William J. Eldridge, 77, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Walter Abrahams, Tuesday afternoon about three o’clock, after a short illness. He would have been 78 in about two weeks.
Eldridge was born and raised on a farm in this county and had lived in Winterset for the past 38 years. In recent years he had lived at the Abrahams home. Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Charles Clark of Des Moines and Mrs. Walter Abrahams of Winterset; six grandchildren and three great grandchildren. His wife preceded him in death six years ago and another daughter, Mrs. W. G. Essick of Des Moines, died about a month ago.
Funeral services will be held this afternoon (Thursday) at two o’clock in Tidrick’s funeral home with the Rev. J. H. Cochrane, Jr., conducting. Burial will be in the Winterset cemetery.
