ANN NEWTON, Winterset

Ann Newton, 88, of Winterset died Feb. 26, 2007, at Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset.

Private graveside services were held Saturday, March 3, at the Winterset Cemetery with Pastor Bobb Barrick officiating.

Ann Newton was born May 14, 1918, in Adair County to J.C. “Dude” and Florence E. (Black) Abbott and was an Orient High School graduate. Her marriage to Don Newton took place May 4, 1947, in Zion. Sixty years ago she moved to Winterset from the Orient-Zion area. Ann, a homemaker, had been a member of the Winterset American Legion Auxiliary, TOPS, AVA, Federated Club of America, West Bridge Red Hat Society, Winterset First United Methodist Church, and the Order of the Eastern Star (50 years).

She was preceded in death by her husband; four brothers, Kenneth Abbott, Arthur Abbott, Jack Abbott and Eldon Abbott; and two sisters, Lois Abbott and Jean Van Pelt.

She is survived by two daughters, Mary Ann of Winterset and Donna Jean of Arvada, Colo.; and a sister, Reva Zellweger of Macksburg.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the family.

Arrangements were handled by Collins Oak Park Chapel & Funeral Services in Winterset.
