LAUREL MEYERS, Winterset

Laurel “L.D.” Meyers, 77, of Winterset died March 4, 2007, at Winterset Care Center South.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 10, at Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare in Winterset with Pastors Bill Branson and Rich Koster officiating. The family will gather one hour prior to the services to receive friends, as well as immediately following at a reception to be held at the funeral home. Military honors will be performed by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8142 and American Legion Post 184, both of Winterset. Burial of the cremated remains will be in the Winterset Cemetery at a later date.

Laurel Meyers was born March 17, 1929, in Milbank, S.D., to Willard and Verna (Lambert) Meyers. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the United States Army. On June 8, 1962, he was united in marriage to Betty Jean Alexander. Throughout his life, Laurel worked as a horse trainer and later as a chef, retiring from Robin’s Wood Oven Grill in Des Moines.

He was preceded in death by his wife and a stepdaughter, Sherry Joyner.

He is survived by one son, Dan Meyers of Indian Harbour Beach, Fla.; one stepdaughter, Darcey Paullin of Winterset; a brother, Bill Meyers of Milbank, S.D.; and eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Middle River Hospice or the Winterset Care Center South Activity Fund.
