MYRTLE THOMAS WILSON

Myrtle Thomas Wilson was born November 29, 1881, near Earlham, Iowa. Her parents were Almeda and Mark Thomas. She had one brother, Ernest, all of whom preceded her in death.

Myrtle attended a country school near her home, graduated from the old Earlham Academy, and attended Penn College in Oskaloosa for three years.

On March 4, 1903, she was married to Clarence E. Wilson and they resided west of Earlham for many years. In 1914 they adopted a month-old baby girl, Audrey Maxine.

In 1937 Myrtle and Clarence moved to Los Angeles, and in 1946 to San Francisco. On March 4, 1953, they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at the home of their daughter and her husband, Paul Sargent.

After her husband Clarence’s passing in 1958, Myrtle lived in a little home in Oakland, California, for a couple of years, and then lived with Maxine and Paul Sargent for four years, until failing health forced her to live at Garden Hospital.

Myrtle was a birthright member of the Friends church and remained as such for many years. At times there was no Friends church near where they lived so they joined and worked where they could attend.

Myrtle passed away on April 13, 1967, leaving her daughter, Audrey Maxine, and her many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Her son-in-law, Paul, passed away exactly six months before she did.
